Anaerobicammoniumoxidation(ANAMMOX)sludgeimmobilizedbywaterbornepolyurethaneanditsnitrogenremovalperformance-alabscalestudyGuanghuiChen,aJunLi,*aSalmaTabassum*bandZhenjiaZhangbInthepresentstudy,tomaintainthebiomassofanaerobicammoniumoxidationbacteria(ANAMMOX)inwater,waterbornepolyurethane(WPU)wasusedtoimmobilizeANAMMOXsludge.TheANAMMOXgranulesimmobilizedbyWPUexhibitedthebestentrapmentsupport,superbbioactivityandhighestmechanicalstabilitywhencomparedwiththeperformanceofotherANAMMOXimmobilizedgranulesofpolyvinylalcohol(PVA),sodiumalginate(SA),andthemixedmaterial,PVA–SA.Inacontinuous-flowexperiment,duringhighvolume-loadWPU-immobilizedgranulesexhibitedarelativelyhightotalnitrogenremovalrate,noeffluentsuspendedsolidsorgranulecrushingwereobservedwithin100days.Thehighesttotalnitrogenremovalrateof80.98%wasobservedwhenthevolumeloadofTNwas1.697kgperm3perdaywithHRT1.5h.WPU-immobilizedgranulesexhibitedbettercorrelation(R2:0.945NH4+–Nand0.989NO2�–N)withexperimentalkineticdataforbiologicalnitrogenremo
