7中药制药废水对淡水毒性ToxicityofHerbalPharmaceuticalWastewatertoaFreshwaterCrustaceanCeriodaphniadubiaShashikantSitreÆShardaDhadseÆShantaSatyanarayanReceived:29November2007/Accepted:8October2008/Publishedonline:5December2008�TheAuthor(s)2008.ThisarticleispublishedwithopenaccessatSpringerlink.comAbstractThemainobjectiveofthisstudywastoeval-uatetheacutetoxicityofraw,neutralizedandphysico-chemicallytreatedandbiologicallytreatedeffluentofherbalpharmaceuticalindustry.TheacutetoxicitytestwasdeterminedusingfreshwatercrustaceanCeriodaphniadu-biaunderlaboratoryconditions.LC50valuesforraw,neutralizedandphysico-chemicallytreatedeffluentfor12,24,36and48hrangedbetween3.0–4.5%,3.9–10.8%and22–28%respectively.Itisevidentfromtheresultsthatphysicochemicaltreatmentreducedthetoxicitybyaround25%whilebiologicaltreatmentreducedthetoxicitycom-pletely.Resultssubjectedtostatisticalevaluationdepictedregressioncoefficientofmorethan0.9indicatinggoodcorrelationbetweenthemortalityrateandeffluentconcentrations.KeywordsAcutetox
